Day in and day out, she was fed the lies that this was for the best, that you would be safe, and that no one would ever hurt you. And, that although things are tough now, we’ll get through it. Just stay hidden and keep quiet, don’t let anyone hear or see you. The House Rules.
Hela believed in her father for that short period of time, her adolescence, he was the only one that had been there, she didn’t remember having a mom, her first memory was that of Fenrir and her fooling around, her father hushing the second he heard them. This was her normal, and she didn’t know what to expect. Was this to be her life? Hidden in the darkest places of the House of Odin?
Odin. Grandpa. Not the same thing. Her father would feed truth to her about him. He was a cruel man, and if he knew of our existence, we wouldn’t see each other again, maybe even killed. So from a young age, she was mortified of Odin, she only ever saw him once. Odin was a man with confidence, he carried himself as a king, his hair had grayed, but he seemed like a man of warmth, it poked her curiosity; But she never acted upon it.
Her father would visit every day at around Noon and after dinner. Today, he visited us at noon, but when dinner had come ad gone, he wasn’t there. Hela had felt a bit strange about this, he had hid Fenrir and Sliepnrir in different places, for safety reasons, so maybe he was with Fenrir, but then again maybe not.
Hela began to play around with some of her childhood toys, alone. She didn’t know what to do, all she could do was wait for father, this wasn’t the first time he was late.
The door swayed open, but it wasn’t Father, no, it was two men in shining armor, they loomed over her, glaring her down. Hela was horrified, what was this? She dropped everything, the room filling with an agonizing silence, she backed away, her eyes filled with pure terror.
”You need to come with us.” Was all they said, she hadn’t the chance to react before she was brutally ripped from her seat. She groaned, but regained herself. Confusion filled her thoughts as they dragged her through the golden hall ways.
” What is this?” she mumbled, her eyes looking to both of the guards. She wanted an answer, but nothing.
” Quiet you wench, the Allfather requires your presence.” And with that she was thrown into the infamous throne room, cast along the floor like a dog. The thud echoed through the decorated room, a agonizing pain emanated from her side.
Hela regained herself, finally able to stand, she felt like falling again once she met the gaze of Odin Allfather.
For years now, Odin knew of the presence being hidden away in his house. There were many, and he allowed it, for a time. No one could remain locked away in the shadows forever, particularly not within Asgard, not so close to the throne. It was a precaution. Allow them to live peacefully, until they could be taught to act against the throne, trained to be defiant.
Particularly when the person hiding them had become a potential threat. Even though he was still cautious, the future wasn’t entirely predictable, even with his gained knowledge. Hanging oneself to gain knowledge of future events would only help if that garnered knowledge of all future events. Ragnarok was one thing to be wary of, but it was an inevitability, and one that Odin would worry not over. Traitors in his house, now, was something to keep himself guarded against.
He had gained knowledge of this girl, however. Learned where she was, who was hiding her— and, oh yes, would he accept punishment for doing so— and what she was. Now was the time to act, he knew, before things around Asgard became too fearsome. It was treacherous times they lived in, and there were very few the King could count on to trust, even within his own house.
“You, girl, how long have you been hidden away here?”
She was here, there was no use in skirting the issue. He sat tall upon the throne, alone in the room save for this other girl. There was no need to make this public knowledge. Her entirely had been a secret, therefore, whatever fate lay in her future would remain as such. Even from the man who had kept her hidden all this time.
For Odin had no plans to reveal to even him what he planned to do with the girl. Her future was to be what Odin’s mercy provided. His plans for her depended on her honesty, for if she told him truthfully the answers to the questions he sought, she would certainly leave this place with her life.
“And answer truthfully. The consequences of the sleight before me will lessen only with your honesty.”
This was no longer the man Hela remembered, had he changed? She knew not, as fear and the rush of anxiety pumped through her system. She felt this growing urge that everything was falling apart before her, nothing would be the same again. Ever. This was what terrorized her.
”I...uh…sir, I mean your majesty…I..“
She was at a loss for words, which was strange because out of her siblings, she was the one who received her father’s tongue. There was no thought process for the girl, just emotions, and fear. Would this be the death of her? She could only fall back on the information that her father gave her, and that wasn’t any more pleasant than this.
”Odin, your majesty…“ She began, recollecting herself. "I have grown up here, since my birth.”
Hela wanted to act friendly, but her fear told her to hold her tongue, this was no matter to toy with like your doll. This man was indeed intimidating, but the only way to possibly gain respect out of him is to show the same respect, and not act like some petty insect.
